Accounting

 

Closing entries lesson plan—use M&M’s to present the abstract concept of closing entries.  M&M’s are divided by color, placed under appropriate account headings and manipulated to demonstrate closing entries.

Inventory—Teaches inventory valuation methods with visual aids—several different kinds of candy bars represent automobiles with costs attached.  As the “cars” are sold, students computer value of ending inventory under LIFO, FIFO, and Weighted Average methods.

Business Law

 

Handwriting and Forgery—Students study the Lindbergh kidnapping and Clifford Irving’s forgery to determine how investigators used handwriting and paper analysis to solve the case.  Several hands on activities are included as well as Internet research.

Business Math

 

Understanding checks—lesson plan on check writing, maintaining a check register and reconciling a balance.  Teachers must prepare material. Contains nice group activity to arrive at final checkbook balance.

Computer Concepts

 

Online lessons dealing with the invention of computers to modern day concerns.  All of the lessons can be used or they can stand alone and be used individually.

Dissect a disk—hands on activity where a disk is taken apart; good lead in to storage concepts.  Good group project, a bit out-dated since most schools are not using floppy disks for student storage.

International Business

 

Global market concepts—Students produce a product to be sold to an international market.  Student must do research to determine which products would sell well in a particular country. Students must come up with a name and logo for their product and determine business customs and trade barriers for their particular country.

International flags—lesson plan for creating flags and learning about their history.  This web site contains a section on the economy of the country.  This is where the real focus of the lesson would be—creating the flag is a fun introduction.

Keyboarding

 

Story Starters—over 45 story starters and ending phrases.  Great for use as warm up or filler material after students have completed their daily lesson.  Kids love it and it is fun to share responses.

Office Procedures

 

Telephone communications—online lessons for proper telephone etiquette.  Contains topics on making and receiving a phone call, language of meetings and presentations.  Short little quizzes available to test learning.
