General Search Engines:

1.  Google

     I chose google because of the size and the speed with which it searches, although yahoo and msn produced similar results in the search google seemed to be faster.

2.  Alltheweb

      I also chose alltheweb because of the size and the speed.  Again it was similar to many of the other big search engines but worked with greater speed.  Speed is one characteristic that I personally like when searching the vast amounts of information on the web.

Education Search Engines:

1.  The Awesome Library

     This education search engine provided some more detailed web sites than the larger search engines.  I could find information about specific programs and standards in those programs.  There was also websites available about programs in different countries.

2. Infomine

     This is an excellent educational search engine.  It is a fairly quick search engine and provided many other resources than some of the general search engines.

Sports Search Engines:

 

1. Scholarly Sport Sites

     This site is a subject directory and also a search engine enhanced by google.  There is an excellent selection of links to almost any area of sports.  Some of the topics include fitness, coaching, safety, physical education, and adapted physical education.

2.  Sportquest

     This is a search engine dedicated to providing databases and information links about sports, fitness, and sports medicine.  Some of the databases include SPORTdiscus, SIRCDetective, SIRCRetriever, SIRCExpress, and SIRCUIT.  These all have excellent resources for coaches, students, and physical educators.

Health Search Engines:

 

1.  North Polk Health, Physical Fitness, Disease, and Drugs

     This is a website that can be used by students, parents, or teachers.  There is a large quantity of topics and links to sites about fitness and health.

2.  Homework Spot

     This is a website for students.  It contains a nice health and fitness section and also contains a number of safe filtered search engines for children.  There are many other subjects and topics they can research on this site.

Meta Search Engines:

 

1.  Surfwax

     This meta search engine seems to be very fast and returned a large quantity of hits on the search query.  It searches many of the other large search engines. 

Also offers some ways for the serious researcher to do some advanced searching.

2.  Ixquick

     This is another large and fast meta search engine that uses many of the larger search engines.  The results appear quickly and there are also results available for related topics.
