Healthy Food Healthy Kids
Grade Level:
This web activity is designed as part of the 6th grade Health Unit.
Objectives:
Students will visit the website http://www.nutritionexplorations.org/kids/main.asp
in order to identify foods from the major food groups and plan a
healthy
meal.
Students will visit the website http://www.nutritionexplorations.org/kids/main.asp
in order examine a daily meal and explain why the meal is or is
not
healthy.
Instructions:

When you have acessed the website, click on " Do you know
about
the food guide pyramid" icon.

Click on the link: "Tour the food guide pyramid".

Examine each catagory and the types of food in the food pyramid.

Then Click on "Navigate through the food pyramid" buttons for
each
category, to read about and identify which foods belong to each
category.
While reading, take notes on which foods would make a healthy meal.

Open up a Microsoft Word document. Center and create a heading
called
"Healthy Meals".

Enter 1 meal and a snack that you normally eat in a day.

Based on that meal, respond to the following question:

Is this meal a healthy meal, why or why not? What foods could
be
added or changed to make it a healthy meal.

Add at least 2 graphics from Online Clipart to your meal.

Proofread, spellcheck and print 1 copy .
