First Grade Math Resources

After teaching first graders this year, I had a difficult time in creating math worksheets to use in my classroom. Not only was it difficult to customize the worksheets so that they included what I was teaching, but it was even harder to format the worksheets with diagrams, shapes, graphs, etc. To be pro-active, I have located ten websites that contain math worksheets specifically geared to be used in a first grade curriculum:

Edhelper.com

This site was terrific because it was sectioned off from easier to harder, over the natural progression of curriculum in the first grade. In addition, I liked that you could customize worksheets by selecting what skills were to be included on each worksheet. View the site at: http://www.edhelper.com/math_grade1.htm

Kidzone

This site was a little sparse in its math related worksheets, but will be helpful in creating reproducible hundreds charts and other work mats. View it at: http://www.kidzone.ws/grade1.htm

About

This site will be helpful in accessing worksheets that reinforce number sense. There are fact family worksheets, as well as addition/subtraction basic fact reinforcements, identification of numbers, etc. View it at: http://math.about.com/od/workshee2/a/Grade1WS.htm

MathFactCafe

Here you can access simple worksheets dealing with greater than/less than, addition and subtraction. I liked that in each category you can customize so that the numbers used in the creation of the worksheet are appropriate for where your students are. For instance you can select comparing 0-3 or up to 9. View it at: http://www.mathfactcafe.com/view/view.aspx?vid=600&t=P&g=1

Problem of the Week

Although not a worksheet, this site is one that I have referenced many times. It contains age appropriate challenge problems to pose to students. Problems can be posted and then a specific amount of time provided to solve the problem. View it at: http://mathforum.org/elempow/

ABC Teach

This website is a little time consuming to navigate, as it contains a huge amount of resources and information. Although, if time permits, there are great worksheets to be found within this site. On this page, there is a list of math subjects to link to; choose by grade level topic, not by grade band itself. View it at: http://abcteach.com/directory/basics/math/

Aplusmath

This website has a vast array of easy to locate worksheets broken down by topic. View it at: http://www.aplusmath.com/Worksheets/

Teachnology

This link takes you directly to one of the most difficult (in my opinion) to create worksheets: money! Here there are a ton of worksheets dealing with money and the language that goes along with currency. View it at: http://www.teach-nology.com/worksheets/math/money/

School Express

Here is another web site that has a listing of math topics linked to a variety of worksheets. View it at: http://schoolexpress.com/fws/cat.php?id=2252
