Translation

Today’s world is getting smaller and smaller. Students can now collaborate with other students from anywhere in the world. When language differences was once a barrier, now there are internet translation sites that can take text in one language and translate it into another. This would be especially helpful when:

1.    Students write to a student in a foreign country in order to gain an understanding of his/her culture and aspects of that country. This can be especially helpful in completing projects in social studies. Emails can be translated between the two using any translating site.

2.    A student wants to view a web site writing in a foreign language. The student can copy/paste portions of the site into the translation tool.

3.    A student wants to read a document written in a foreign language, but can not due to the language barrier. The student can type the statements/sentences into the translation block on the web sites and read the text in his native language.

4.    Students can write to a foreign student in that students’ native language by translating before he/she sends the message.

5.    Students taking a foreign language class may be reading novels that are written soley in the foreign language. If a portion of the text is unreadable to this learner, he can retype it itto the translation tool and understand what has been written.
