School Library Web Page
Topics
As a future school librarian, the
website that I design will need to be a resource accessible to both teachers
and students. I have come up with a list of ideas that would be helpful in
including in my site.
Author Sites
This is important for both
teachers and students. Here, they can find a list of websites for favorite
authors from one central location. I would have this page arranged by author’s
last name, in alphabetical order.
Journal and Magazine Subscriptions
This page would be divided
into two sections; one as a teacher list, and another as a student list. Here,
I would link sites of our current library subscriptions for easy navigation.
Research Tools
On this page, I would include
a narrative on how to determine the validitiy of a
site. This information would be most helpful for students who are newcomers to
searching for information online. Following the narrative, I would include
links to kid-friendly search sites to aide the students in the location of
websites containing the information they are looking for.
Student Showcase
Here, I would like to
include pictures of great classroom activities, as well as student art work
that can be photographed and loaded into a web page.
Award Winners
On this page, I think it
would be fun and kid-friendly (as well as realating
to what is taught during media time!) to include a list of the past year
winners in the Black Eyed Susan award, as well as a list of the nominations for
this year’s award so that students can get involved and check out those books.
Dewey Decimal Information
As an adult, I have
difficulty remembering and using the Dewey system, so here, I would have a list
of each hundred level and its overall topic. Under each, I would include a
breakdown of all of the subtopics included in our library and where to find
each.
Weather
Here, I would post a list of
weather sites so that students can easily check the weather forecast from their
classrooms without having to search for those sites.
