INTRODUCTION – How do you feel when your parents give you a new chore to do around the house? What is it like when your teachers make a new rule for the class to follow? Well, I’m sure you can sympathize with the colonists then. There were many new rules (acts) placed on them by the British Parliament after the French and Indian War. These policies angered the colonists for many reasons. The colonies and Britain couldn’t seem to agree on any of these new rules. One event led to another, which ultimately created the Revolutionary War.

TASK – By the end of this lesson you will:

• Use the Internet to research the major events that led to the Revolutionary War.
• Create a timeline of events.
• Write a summary of events and how they led to the Revolutionary War.
• Create a power point presentation of the major events.

PROCESS – In order to complete this assignment you need to:

• Print the graphic organizers.
• Go to the following websites to research this topic, and to gather information in order to complete the graphic organizers.
• As you visit the sites, complete the timeline first. This will give you a better understanding of the sequence of events.
• Then, complete the chart as fully as you can. This will help you write a complete summary of the events.
• When you are finished with the chart, use Microsoft Word to write a summary of the events that shaped the Revolutionary War.
• Finally, you will create a power point presentation on the main events that led to the Revolutionary War. Create at least one slide for every event.
• Save all of the work that you do for this assignment on your computer. For the paper/pencil activities, make sure you file it in your social studies binder.

EVALUATION – Rubrics

CONCLUSION – The events that you just learned about led to the American Revolution. Because the colonists stood up for themselves, and what they believed in, we are who we are today. They helped us gain independence from Britain and they shaped our country to what is today. By completing this assignment, you should have a deeper understanding of why our laws and government are the way they are.
