This bibliography includes websites that contain information about the Revolutionary War.  I have used most of these websites to supplement my lessons, to help my students research the war, or to simply generate ideas for classroom discussion.

 

The American Revolutionary War

HistoryCentral.Com - This page provides information about the events that led up to the American Revolutionary War as well as the main events and battles throughout the war.  It also consists of photos, documents, famous quotes and much more.  Links to other important historical events are also referred to at this site.  Date visited - 9/21/03

Women Soldiers in the American Revolutionary War - “Women were there!”  This site makes us aware that women played an important role during the Revolutionary War.  Even though they disguised themselves as men, women such as Molly Pitcher and Deborah Samson were willing to volunteer their services in order to oppose the common enemy.

Virtual Marching Tour of the American Revolutionary War - In this site, you will sequentially revisit the major events that took place in Philadelphia during 1777.  There are brief summaries of battles, famous people, and sites in the war.  Visitors are able to play games, write to the author of the web page, and look at maps from the war.  Date visited - 9/21/03

American Revolution War Soldiers & Their Descendants - This is the coolest site to locate your ancestors that may have taken part in the Revolutionary War.  The site contains pages that has email and/or URL addresses of descendants or persons who can give you some background information on soldiers.  Date visited - 9/22/03

LIBERTY! The American Revolution - PBS funds this site.  It provides information on the daily life in the colonies through an interactive search, liberty today, and the road to the revolution game.  Excellent site for a center!  Date visited - 9/22/03

The History Place: American Revolution - The History Place provides a one, to three sentence description of important US events that date back from 1000 AD to 1800.  There are also links to pictures of famous people that were a part of these events.  Date visited- 9/22/03

Continental Congress & Constitutional Convention: Time Line, 1764-1775 - Here is a great time line of America during the Age of Revolution from 1764-1775.  Every important event imaginable is described in this site.  Events from the “Sugar Act of 1764" to “The Battle at Bunker Hill in 1775.”  Date visited-9/23/03

JOHNNY TREMAIN: The Revolutionary War -After reading about Johnny Tremain students are guided through this site step by step so that they can explore the causes, conduct, and participants that brought about the American Revolution.  The members of

each group gathers information on the topics assigned.  Which is all on the site.  They then use the information to make comparisons and to gain insights. Each group member focuses on one particular area and adds this information to the final project/activity. Then, each group produces a written and oral report to present.  Date visited-9/24/03

Privateers or Merchant Mariners help win the Revolutionary War - As the 13 Colonies were declaring their Independence, they had only 31 ships in the Continental Navy.  In order to expand, they recruited privately owned armed merchant ships.  They were responsible to prey on enemy merchant ships.  Click on the link to see a comparison of Navy vs. Privateer ships during the War from 1777 to 1782.  Date visited-9/25/03
