Translation

Below is a chart with websites that translates English to Spanish to German and so on.  An example of how the sites work is provided.  I went to one of the sites and typed in a message in English and it translated the message in Spanish and German.  I went to three different websites to see if there was any difference.  You can see that there is a difference with the translations from the different sites, even though I put in the same English sentence.

There are several uses of the sites above.  Ways you can apply the sites would be to use them for:

1) Assignments (Whether it be a worksheet or a long-term project use the sites to convert English to whatever language necessary, and avoid confusion.)

2) Newsletters (From the PTA, principal, or the teacher.  Send home a completely translated letter to your non-English speaking families.)

3) Phone Calls (If a computer is handy, you can translate your call in minutes.)

4) Conferences (When a parent comes to visit, welcome them with their native tongue by using one of the sites above.  It may take a while, but use the site to communicate with the parents while you are meeting with them.)

5) ESOL Students (These are great to use with the non-English speaking students in your class.  While you are working one-on-one or in a small group, use the sites to help instruct the students.)

6) Books (The sites can translate up to 150 words at a time.  Use them to help with small reading assignments that aren’t in the persons language.)
