SLM 521
Course Module
Objective:
The students will create an annotated bibliography.
Introduction:
We viewed many documents, sources, and websites on the American
Revolution. Most of them were very beneficial
in informing you about the battles, places, people, and significant events that
took place during this era. I would
like you to continue your search to further your knowledge about this “turning
point” in America. You will visit many websites
that I have provided for you. You will “skim-scan”
the sites to determine whether or not the site has valuable information. If it does, you will create an annotated
bibliography of the information that you find.
Activities: In
order to complete this assignment, you will need to:
1) View the websites for important facts/details.
2) Use the “skim-scan” technique to identify relevant facts about the American
Revolution.
3) Complete the graphic organizer as you view the websites.
4) Use the graphic organizer that you completed to create an annotated
bibliography.
Assignment:
Before you begin this assignment, you need to click on the link in order
to print your graphic organizer. After you print your graphic organizer, you
are required to locate ten different websites that provide you with important
facts and details about the American Revolution. The links below are safe for you to use. However, remember the rules that we went
over and the agreement form that you and your parents signed. Once you find a site on the Revolution, you
need to apply the “skim-scan” technique that you learned in reading class. If you feel that the website provides you
with valuable information, you should fill out the graphic organizer.
Once you complete the graphic organizer, you will need to complete an annotated
bibliography. An example of what your
bibliography should look like is below.
The purpose of this assignment is to create as many resources for our
class on the topic, American Revolution.
You may find a website that your classmates do not, and vice versa. After everyone submits his or her
bibliography, we will compile one big bibliography for everyone to use as the
year goes on.
Each web link needs the
following components:
1. Title Page of the website
2. Annotation-A brief description of
what the web site is about.
3. The date you visited the page.
4. The URL or web address.
Sample - Your web link citation should formatted
like this:
HistoryCentral.Com - This page
provides information about the events that led up to the American Revolutionary
War as well as the main events and battles throughout the war. It also consists of photos, documents,
famous quotes and much more. Links to
other important historical events are also referred to at this site. Date visited - 9/21/03
