General Search Engines
- Google It is now the largest, and includes PDF,
DOC, PS, and many other file types.
Relevance based on sites' linkages and authority. Cached archive of Web pages as the
looked were indexed. Additional

- Yahoo! Extremely popular and one of the most popular web sites. One of the larger directory
databases. Many services and good
for popular and general information.

Kid Safe Search Engines
- AJ Kids This
site appeals to students with a personal butler to guide them to the
information that they seek. Unique
in that the search involves asking a question instead of typing in
keywords. Many extras and helpful

- Yahooligans! A spin off for kids from the most
popular search engines in the world (Yahoo!). In addition to helping students find the information they
are seeking, this site includes many extras such as games, jokes, and

Meta Search Engines
- Info.com is a powerful meta search engine that
displays fast, relevant results from 14 search engines. Also provides
white/yellow pages, news, images, etc. http://info.com/
- Dogpile is a multi-engine semi-parallel search
interface. Searches logically through several search engines until 10
matches are found. http://www.dogpile.com/
News Search Engines

MSN Search is one of the search engines for the MSN portal
site. It uses an Inktomi database. The
basic search screen only shows a few options, but by choosing the Advanced Search link, the full range of search features
