Miscellaneous Elective:  Safety

 

Dear Grade 4 Parents and Students,

 

The internet is an incredible resource that makes it easy to access information on just about any topic that you can imagine.  We will be using this resource throughout the 4th grade year to assist us in our learning on various topics.  While it can be an extremely helpful resource of information, there are also dangers out there in “cyberspace” that we all need to be aware of.  

 

The MCPS office of internet safety has posted some very useful information on this topic.  They also tell about what they are doing to provide your student(s) with safe access to the internet.  You can read about all of this by accessing their website at http://www.mcps.k12.md.us/info/cipa/.

 

In addition to the county’s effort, you can rest assured that I will use every precaution to make your son/daughter’s internet experience a safe one.  The students are only allowed to access the internet with me and/or another staff member present in the room.  The students will only be accessing websites that I have directed them to use and I will always preview the site before sending them there.  Finally, the students will immediately turn off the power on the monitor screen if something inappropriate appears on the screen and will inform me right away.

 

Since using the internet responsibly is a team (parent, student, teacher) effort, I am asking that you read over this computer use agreement with your son/daughter and sign below:

 

To make sure that I am safely using the internet, I will…

 

·        Only access websites that my teacher has given me permission to use.

·        Use the internet only when my teacher and/or a staff member is in the room.

·        Immediately turn off the power on the monitor if something inappropriate appears on the screen.

·        Understand that using the internet is a privilege and I will lose that privilege if I do not follow these rules.
