1. The Internet is now used more frequently in the classroom setting. It is very common to need a translator from one language to another. E-mail communication between parents and teachers is becoming more prevalent. Being able to write an E-mail to an ESOL students’ parent in English and have it translated to their spoken language would open a new door to communication between teachers and parents.

2. Translators can also be used in the classroom. I have always wanted to do a project with Longitude and Latitude involving contacting people from around the world. Now that we have these translation sites I am able to contact many different locations with few limitations. Rockville, Maryland has a sister city in Pinesberg, Germany and now I am able to translate E-mails with other Geometry teachers who study Longitude and Latitude.

3. A translation site would be helpful for a teacher to put at the bottom of the syllabus page. This why any international student would be able to take the site and directions from a homework assignment and understand them enough to be able to do their homework. ESOL students have a lot of trouble in math classes when it comes to word problems and now they will be able to take it home or to the library and use a translation web site to help them.

4.  A teacher would be able to use these sites to help them learn parts of a language. If a student is new to the school and does not know English very well, teachers can enter in a sentence in English and have the student read the translation.

5. A math class and a French class could get together to interdisciplinary unit on measurement. The French class cannot use English and the Math class cannot use French. They must communicate through a translation website. They must convert from the metric system and our system of measurement.
