Exploring the Internet

Objective- The student will be able to use Inspiration to make an outline of internet research.

Introduction-The Internet has many different functions including research.  The problem with doing research on the Internet is reliability.  There are a lot of sites on the Internet that offer great information about the topic being researched but there are also sites that give false and misleading information.

Activity- using the websites below, read about how to tell when the information is valid or invalid for your research.

·        Albany- make sure to click on the links they offer you.  The links are extremely beneficial. http://library.albany.edu/internet/research.html

·        Evaluation- An outline to evaluate websites. http://www.lib.berkeley.edu/TeachingLib/Guides/Internet/Evaluate.html

·        Tips- A guide of useful tips to find good research on the Internet. http://auth.mhhe.com/socscience/psychology/smil/ebest/uci_research_supp.html

Assignments- Using your newfound knowledge of finding good research on the Internet, create a document in Inspiration 7.5 to generate an outline.  This outline is a mathematical topic of your choice.  You need to use your favorite search engine to research the math topic.  Remember you have new knowledge of finding good research, so make sure your sources are reliable.  Please make sure to choose a specific topic and not a broad topic (Geometry is too broad of a topic, but Concurrency is a specific topic).  Follow the steps below to use Inspiration 7.5.  Please see the rubric for outline specifics.

·        Go to the Novell-delivered Application

·        Double Click on the Application folder

·        Double Click on the Inspiration Icon

·        Click on the type of outline you would like to use (flow chart, bullet outline, etc)

You outline should contain the following:
