Butterflies and Children

Now that you have become butterfly experts and learned everything there is to know about our little fluttery friends, I have one last task for you.  Have you ever thought about how much humans are like butterflies?  Have you thought about how very different we are?  Now is your chance to compare the two.

Go to the websites below.  The first describes the parts of a butterfly and then shows you a diagram of a butterfly.  Print out the page and carefully label the butterfly diagram.  Pay careful attention to what body parts a butterfly has.  The second site shows you a person (in case you forgot) to look at too.  You can label the diagram of the person or not.  I’m pretty sure you know all of the parts!  Quick, where is your elbow?

What do you notice that we have the same?  What is different?  Think about what else you’ve learned about butterflies and what you know about humans.  What do they eat?  Where do they live?  Use everything you’ve learned to do your comparison.

Click this link to download your worksheet and compare kids with butterflies.  When you are finished, put your paper in the Science box.
