Citing Internet Resources
There are two web sites that should be
used in conjunction with each other when instructing students on how to cite
information found on the web. The Citing
Web resources site by the Lafayette College Library is the best site to use
with students who need to know how to document web documents and journal
articles found on the web. It starts out
by stating the components that the user will need to know in order to cite
properly. These components include the author
of the page, the actual title, the date of publication for the page, the URL of
the page, and date of access. There is
also a little blurb explaining the information and how to find it, along with
what to do if you can’t locate it. This
site then goes over the three formats for documentation, MLA, APA, and
The other website that I feel should be
used along with this site is the Citing Internet Resources by Connected
Teacher. This one I feel is useful
because it shows how to document email, online images, online sounds, online
video clips, FTP, and more. While it
doesn’t go into the detail and explanation as the other site, I think that
being able to cite these items correctly would also be very valuable.
