Today you will be examining a picture of the Great Wall of China. Look carefully at the features of the wall and of the surrounding terrain. Using this information and what we have already learned, answer these questions.

1. How did the builders of the wall use the features of the environment to make the wall more effective?

2. Why would they have worked so hard to make the wall such a formidable obstacle?
