It’s no secret that many people the world over believe that there is a crisis of leadership. We have painstakingly witnessed failed leadership at home, on Wall Street, in the auto industry, and in government.

However, the unintended consequences of decision making is no surprise when you consider that top leaders have never been rigorously trained in decision making; and contrary to how we may feel, bad decisions are not always their fault but often their fate.

Leadership development has always been a core principle of the College’s mission statement and now McDaniel College has stepped up its commitment by introducing the Center for Leadership in Global Enterprise.

A major program within the Center is the Leadership in Global Enterprise graduate certificate. This is not another just another management program. It is designed to train top leaders in the private and the public sectors—presidents, vice-presidents, directors and managers with 10+ years of leadership experience—to reduce cognitive bias and resulting errors of judgment that produce unintended consequences of decision making, significantly improving their ability to lead effectively as they perform on a global stage.

The program is a 20-credit, four course graduate/post-graduate certificate approved by the Maryland Higher Education Commission, offered completely on-line utilizing three technology friendly training platforms including WIMBA, Blackboard and Second Life to accommodate different learning styles and content.

We are offering a series of live Webcasts to provide alumni with the opportunity to answer questions about the LGE program.

The Webcasts will be hosted by the Center’s executive director, Mel Albin Ph.D., Steve Kerby, Director of Instructional Technology, and Robin Brenton associate vice president, Alumni Relations.

Space is limited so be sure to sign up for the podcasts right away and learn why this leadership program has no peer.

September 22, 7:00 pm (EST)

The program consists of four eight-week courses and center on:

  • global strategy, culture and innovation;
  • finance and operations;
  • marketing and entrepreneurship;
  • IT security and knowledge management.

Each course has its own one week on-line residency where concepts learned in the coursework are applied to one’s specific place of employment, tasking you to generate at least two innovations and solve at least two vexing problems. Each participant is initially provided a confidential battery of leadership assessments generating several important reports. The reports are presented to each participant through a one-on-one meeting with an executive coach assigned for the ten months of the program. The leadership assessments are used as a baseline for measuring and improving his/her leadership performance at the worksite.

The faculty is of the highest caliber featuring scholar practitioners from around the globe including Nobel Laureates.
