 A. Acquire a McDaniel Web Account

In the future, we expect to have an online account creation system.

For now (spring '03), contact Information Services at extension 4689 (or 2537) and ask for a student Web account.

  • Your username will be the same as your email username.
  • Your password will be machine generated.

After you receive your machine generated password, you must then change that password.

To do so, go to: http://student.mcdaniel.edu/cgi-bin/changepass.cgi

Enter:

  • your username (same as email username; eg. sak001)
  • the password IS gave you
  • your new password that you can remember (it must be 8 characters long and contain two numerics)
  • yoru new password again
  • submit

REMEMBER YOUR NEW PASSWORD!

You are now ready to FTP (File Transfer Protocol). That means you can publish (upload) your Web pages or Web site to the McDaniel server that will make them available on the World Wide Web.

How to FTP?

If you are a student using a public computer lab, skip to How to FTP using Internet Explorer.

If you own a copy of Dreamweaver and are publishing from your home or dorm room, you can learn how to set up a remote site and use Dreamweaver to FTP.
