Cisco Clean Access

First, get your machine ready!

Be sure your computer is firmly connected to the Ethernet jack (or hub) in your room with an Ethernet cable, not a phone cord. Turn you machine on and click on your web browser to open the application

Instructions for Mac Users

Once your browser opens you will immediately be redirected to the screen represented in #4 on page 2 of the Windows Users instructions. Click where it says ‘Here'

You will now see a screen like #6 in the Windows Users instructions. Enter your McDaniel email user name (without the ‘@mcdaniel.edu') and password. Click continue.

Your last step is to accept the McDaniel Network Acceptable Use Policy.

Congratulations! You should now have a connection to the McDaniel Network.

Instructions for Windows Users

NOTE: If, when you try to log onto a web page, you continue to get this Alert message instead of being redirected to the Cisco Clean Access page, you will need to follow all the steps below

If you DO NOT get the above error message, start with #4 below

#1

On the START bar you will have an icon for Local Area Connection.

RIGHT click on it

You will now see this connection status box. Click on the ‘ Properties' button

#2

(To continue with these instructions to properly configure your machine, you MUST have administrator rights to your machine.)

On the properties page, select Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) and click ‘ OK '

Make sure the “ Obtain an IP address automatically ” is checked, and if an IP address appears in the IP address line remove all numbers.

#3

In the lower part of this window, you should have “ Obtain DNS server address automatically ” checked.

Click ‘ OK ' to save settings

#4

When you initially attempt to log on to any web page you will be redirected to this screen.

Click where it says ‘ HERE '

If you see a ‘Security Alert' on this page, check the box “In the future do not show me this warning' and then click ‘ OK'

#5

Click ‘Yes'

(Netscape screens will appear slightly different – you should accept this certificate permanently and click ‘ OK' )

#6

Enter your McDaniel email user name (without the ‘@mcdaniel.edu') and password. If you do not know either your user name and/or password, bring your student ID to Wallace Newsome in the Office of Information Technology (3rd door on the right down the Info Tech hallway) User names and passwords WILL NOT be given out over the phone.

Click ‘Continue'

#7

Click ‘Download Clean Access Agent'

(If you choose not to download the agent you WILL NOT be allowed onto the McDaniel network.)

After you click ‘ Download Clean Access Agent ' a security Alert box will appear. Click ‘ Yes ' or ‘ OK ' in the Security Alert box.

#8

Once the agent has downloaded Clean Access will ask if you want to Run the program or Save it. Click ‘ Save '

(Netscape does not ask this – just go to the next instruction box)

#9

The next screen gives you the option where to save the Agent. IT suggests saving it to your desktop.

Once you have chosen where to save the agent, click ‘ Save '

#10

Once the download is complete you will see this box. Click ‘ Run '

(Netscape will show a box that requires you to click ‘ Close ')

#11

You will next see this notice. Click ‘ Run '

(Explorer only)

#12

When your browser comes back to this screen, close it out by clicking on the small red ‘X' in the upper right hand corner.

NOTE : You should not see this error notice but if you do, it means you do not have Administrative permissions to make changes to your computer. In other words, someone has locked you out of making changes such as adding or deleting programs. You must have administrative permission to continue.

#13

In some browsers you will have to go to where you saved the CCAAgent set-up file, and double left click it's icon to open the Install Wizard. Other browsers will automatically initialize the Install Wizard.

#14

Click ‘Next'

#15

Click ‘Next'

#16

Click ‘Install”

#17

Click ‘Finish'

#18

Enter your McDaniel email username (without the @mcdaniel.edu) and password. Check the “Remember Me' box and click ‘ Login '

#19

Click ‘ Yes ' at this Security Alert.

#20

At this point you will have temporary access to Clean Access. If your machine is lacking any parameters IT has designated as necessary, you will have 45 minutes to go only to the allowed sites to get what you need, ie: Windows Updates, antivirus definitions, etc.

NOTE: it is not mandatory to download SP2 to get a connection. However Windows will try to make you do so. DO NOT try to download SP2 – it will take several HOURS to download.

#21

If you see a screen such as this, it means your machine is not meeting IT standards to connect. You will be notified for every test your system failed. If the test your machine failed has a ‘Go To Link', click on that and follow on screen instructions. Not all failed tests have a “Go To Link” button. In that case just follow on screen instructions – REMEMBER - DO NOT TRY TO DOWNLOAD SP2!

  Congratulations! You are now connected!

#22

Once your machine has met all the criteria, you will be directed to the Network Policy page. You MUST now accept the policy.
