Directing

For students planning to enter an M.F.A. or other professional/graduate program in directing

Prerequisites:

• Theatre major/dual major/minor
• Acting 1113, course in dramatic literature/theatre history: Theatre of the Western World, Contemporary Theatre, Modern American Drama
• Production experience
• Presentation of a short scene or staged reading (spring of sophomore year or fall of junior year)
• Students must have and maintain a 2.7 GPA overall and a 3.0 GPA in the Theatre Arts Department.

Requirements:

• Directing
• Drama Workshop (spring of either junior or senior year)
• Advanced course in Acting
• Advanced course in Design
• Drama Workshop
• Assistant Director for a Performance Lab production
• Two Directing Lab productions
• Teaching Assistant for an introductory course
• Internships or summer experience as an actor, stage manager, etc.
• Review of directed work (production or scene work) in spring of junior year and fall of senior year
• Preparation of videotape for Graduate School applications
