Introduction:  

In the 1960s, America experienced many changes, including changes in education,                           values, lifestyles, and laws.  Some major historical events, such as the Civil Rights                        movement and the Vietnam War occured in the 1960s, as well.



Activity:  

  1. Visit the following links to find out more about life in the 1960s.  Pay attention to 1960s culture, economy, events, education, fashion, and news headlines.


     2.  Travel back in time and take on the role of a young adult during the 1960s.  Since there is so much going on in this decade, you will need to create a journal that                  includes events, people, and culture of the 60s.  Include the following in your journal:

  •      Dates
  •     Important people
  •     Historical Events
  •     Culture
  •     Attitudes, Opinions
  •     Changes in politics, education, fashion
  •     You thoughts and feelings on this period of time

  • For this assignment, you must write ten 2-paragraph journal entries and write the date before each entry.  In each entry, you must include a significant historical event or discuss changes in culture, education, law, or values.  You must also include your personal feelings, thoughts, and opinions about the event or change taking place during that time.  Since you are a young adult, talk about fashion, music, and/or art in a few of your entries.       
  • Your entries may be written about one or two years of the 1960s, or, you may spread them out over the whole decade.
