Coffman   David Brian Cross Memorial Award commemorates the mathematical achievments of David Cross, Western Maryland College Class of 1981, whose work and high standards in mathematics courses and problem solving serve as a model of excellence. This award is given annually to the McDaniel College student who attains the highest significant score on the William Lowell Putnam Mathematical Competition.   The Lowell Duren Award is being given in memory of Dr. Lowell Duren, a former member of the Mathematics Department who was an outstanding mathematics educator and loyal friend of McDaniel College. The award is given to first and second year students, who are majoring or minoring in Mathematics, for achieving the highest results on the annual department mathematics competition.
