La Maison Française

The French House is an affinity house whose purpose is to provide students with an opportunity to practice the French language outside the classroom. Students majoring in French who cannot spend a semester in a French-speaking country are required to live at least a year in the French house in an environment which fosters acquisition of language fluency and knowledge of the French culture.

The French assistant for
the academic year 2004-2005 is
Laetitia Lheureux
A French native exchange student lives in the house and serves as house director to organize activities and to practice everyday conversation and casual discussion with students living in the house. Students meet on a regular basis for an activity (games, movies conversation, meal, TV programs, etc.) to develop their language skills, away from the pressure of the classroom. Many activities are organized in cooperation with Le Cercle français, the French club.
La Maison française is equipped with a satellite dish to receive French and francophone TV programs, 24 hours a day from TV5-la télévision internationale. TV5 airs its programs in all five continents and has been available in the United States since January, 1998. Daily and weekly programming can be found on the Web at: http://www.tv5.org
