Research Interests
For the past eight years, I have been working on a short-form dialect atlas of Louisiana French, gathering fieldwork from informants in sixty points in that state; the field work is now being mapped for publication, thanks in part to a grant from McDaniel College. My past and current research includes the dialect history of Louisiana French, especially in relation to its Acadian cousin in the Canadian Maritimes and its source-dialects in Western France. Also in preparation is a conference paper on the "lifetimes" of saints' cults in Northern medieval France.
Teaching Interests
At present, I am teaching beginning French and Spanish and Advanced and Intermediate Readings courses in Francophone Literature. In 1999, I expect to offer a course in French on the French in America at Frederick Community College.
