Research interests I specialize in Colonial Spanish-American literature, and while the primary focus of my research has been women writers of early modern Spain and Spanish America, future research will bring me back to the study of non-European perspectives on the Conquest and Colonial Periods. I am currently writing a book that analyzes classical mythology in the works of the seventeenth-century Mexican poet, Sor Juana Inés de la Cruz. I continue to study mythology in other works of Hispanic literature of the early modern period, paying particular attention to mythological treatises. Teaching interests My teaching interests include Spanish language, and Spanish-American literature and culture from the Colonial period to the present. I focus on writing by women, the indigenous, and the African diaspora. Hobbies In my spare time I enjoy walking and hiking with my dog, cooking, reading, and yoga. I love to travel, and I encourage ALL of my students to study, work, or volunteer abroad --come talk to me about it anytime. |
