McDaniel INTERNSHIPS!!!

Academic Regulations for Internships

To qualify as an Internship and to receive credit, the focus of the activity must be job related along with having an academic dimension. If the activity was only academic related, it would be an Independent Study, not an Internship.

The number of credits allowed with vary with the activity and the hours spent on the job. For example, at least 37 hours of work during Jan term is required for one credit. Students may have no more than two credits of classroom intership in a single discipline that may count for graduation. A maximum of 12 hours may be applied towards graduation.

After speaking with a faculty sponser, each student must submit to their sponser a detailed proposal indicating...
  1. A detailed description of the internship
  2. The academic dimensions of the study (required readings, written work, oral presentations, etc.)
  3. The requirements upon which the grade is based
  4. Objectives of the Internship, including final products (time logs, journals, supervisor evaluation, written evaluation of internship, etc.)
  5. Deadlines for completion of the work
Faculty sponsers always have final grading responsibility.

The Registrar's Office must receive this form, filled out in entirety, as a formal registration for credit. Except in the case of projects carried out during Jan term, the form must be submitted on or prior to the last date for withdrawl from classes wtih a "W" grade. The academic content of teh internship must be planned with your faculty sponser prior to the work experience. Credit will not be awarded for projects carried out in prior semesters.
