With undergraduate student collaborators, I am currently cataloging gregarine parasite fauna found in Maryland odonates (dragonflies). Gregarines are members of the Phylum Apicomplexa, which includes such infamous human parasites as Plasmodium (which causes malaria), Cryptosporidium andToxoplasma (opportunistic pathogens). We have collected adult dragonflies from five ponds in two Maryland Counties so far (Carroll and Frederick). For further information on my research:
