Manchester Nature Center

The Manchester Nature Center, which was built back in 1995, consists of mulch trails, habitat fields, butterfly garden, and an octagonal meeting place located at the Wilhelm Drive center. The 64 acre preserve was developed on land which had been set aside to protect Pine Valley springs.

Volunteer Walter Massey said that the nature center-also known as the outdoor school by students at Manchester Elementary School- should soon have educational programs maintained by other volunteers with a variety of offerings for the community. The recently formed Parks Foundation plans the center's future, and helps maintian towns's open spaces through the acquisition of grant funds and the use of volunteer hours. The foundation will welcome any volunteers to serve on the board, join its committees, or donate time. The foundation is also looking for ideas on how to develop the center. Massey would like to include more buildings and planned lessons, for adults and children, which would show them such things as how native Americans onced lived or where hawks nest.
