Plant Cell Organelle Lab

Organelles:

Vacuoles : these tonoplast bound organelles act to maintain turgor pressure, store
waste or valued compounds, and may aid in herbivory defense.

Pigmented Plastids : Chloroplasts (green pigments) / Chromoplasts ( red-yellow pigments )

Clear Plastids: Leucoplasts (modified for starch storage)

Fat storage ; coconuts and avocados.

Ergastic substances: nonprotoplasmic materials in the protoplasts including crystals (banana), gums, tannins and resins

Epidermal cells including guard cells and trichomes

Sclerenchyma: sleds and fibers

Wall plasmodesmata : means for intercellular transport and communication
