WARM-UP

Can 2 and 1 make 4?

OBJECTIVE

Students will be able to develop methods to fool the senses.

INTRODUCTION

You may have been confused or made an assumption based on your prior knowledge, and found that you did not give the correct answer. Our sense organs make the same mistakes, Yes, your senses do make mistakes and can be fooled.

GUIDED PRACTICE

[Before class draw two lines the exact same length on the chalkboard, one with the arrows pointing out, the other with the arrow pointing in. <----->, >-----<] Optic illusions

Look at the examples of 'optic illusions'. Your brain interprets what it sees based on 'prior knowledge. Look at the lines on the chalkboard, which is longer? *[The Taste and Smell or the Hot and Cold activity may be done here also]

Assign students to groups of 3-4.

INDEPENDENT PRACTICE

Each group will develop means of 'fooling' the senses
