1. hereditary - those characteristics which are passed from one generation to another through the genetic information code of DNA

2. genetic disorder - a condition in the organism which is caused by the DNA code that is not normal

3. sickle cell disorder (hemoglobin S) - a genetic condition where the red blood cells form a crescent shape

4. hemoglobin - a protein found in the red blood cells that allow for oxygen to attach to the blood cell

5. alleles - different forms of the same gene

6. chromosome - the bands of DNA material found in the cell's nucleus

7. heterozygous - different alleles on a gene influencing a specific trait

8. homozygous - identical alleles on a gene influence a specific trait
