To include in your final paper and PowerPoint presentation:
1. Water pollution and water availabilty in your city/country: include data on the quality and quanity of water; include whether water is priviatized or not: Will there be water if your population grows? Is there chemical contamination of waters by pesticides?
2. Population growth or loss in your city/county: what is the situation in your country? is your population growing or losing? what is the age structure- will there be enough young or too many to support the older classes? what will happen with the older classes? will be there pension/social security and available, affordable medical care? Show current statistics and predicted statitiics for growth/age.
3. Food production: if your population is growing can you increase your food production? If China and India, start importing more food, will your population be afford to buy imports?
How has farming affected the water supply, erosion, use of land in your country? is there more land available for increased farming if your population increases? get actually data. No "I think"...4. Biodiversity: Has your country lost many species.. do any exist? have you had problems with alien species? How much of country is dedicated to wild spaces for animals/plants to live on their own? Does your country have a policy for wildlife?
5. Energy: what is the energy policy for your country? what are the primary sources of energy for industry and residents?
how much alternative energy is used - how much energy does it supply? are there moves be made to increase use.. this supported by the government? show evidence.
6. Air Pollution: how bad or good is air pollution in your city/country? how many people suffer ill effects from air pollution? what are the primary causes of air pollution in your country/city? What is being done to reduce it? Are there laws which state what levels are permissable? what are they? Did your country sign the Kyoto Protocol or any other international conference to reduce pollution?7. Urbanization: How big is your city? how has it grown in the last decades? is it predicted to grow much more? give estimates. What features make your city a good or bad example? What is the ratio of poor to rich or middle class? what is the violence rate? What is being done now to make your city better? what could be done? should your city be bombed?
All your statements should be documented with data from your references. You can go online and get data.. Make sure you make a paper copy and include it with your written report. Make sure you use actual journal papers as well as online sources of information.
I think the online CIA web site has section on cities, population statistics. I have plenty information available online. You may have to email the embassy of your country to get some info ( hopefully not!- if you do, make sure to give them time to give you the info)
